Off to poo pick some more of a 10 acre field this morning then youngest has a riding lesson this afternoon. The lesson will be fun as he is practising for a lead rein gymkhana this coming Sunday. Guess which muppet is going to be on the other end of the rope

Never done lead rein work before so it should be 'interesting'

Happy Birthday M_C_Ms son hope he has a good day

Good Luck with the vet today MrsM (((((((hugs))))))) and kisshes from me and the boys to you and Dizz to hope everythings ok
smile.gif

well he was bit lame to begin with, then seemed fine had a canter and seemed good, then when he came back to trot a few times went abit limpy, i think it probly is his old age making stiff.

Just woke up...this is ridiculous! Going to keep cleaning my flat (trying to avoid work), and then take the pony for a walk. He was a touch lame again in trot last night, though only on the right rein, so he'll get a few more days of taking it easy...then off to yank out ragwort!

Good luck with the vet, Mrs M.!

Hi everyone!!

I'd say it may be more than that tbh.... Its quite likely that you just can't tell so easily in canter. Sounds like a job for the vet to me.
Does he live in or out? If it is stiffness then its only going to get worse over winter I should think, so you really need to find out for sure asap especially in that he's for sale. You don't really want to be working a horse if its something other than stiffness...you could be doing more damage
crazy.gif

well cant afford vets bills, for xrays nerve blocks or whatever other crap they decid they need to do. and i meant when he went back to walk he was bit limpy. sound for 95%of lunging.

would be great wouldnt it get vet out he costs me arm and leg then says horse is basically f*cked so im left with a horse to shoe etc that isnt even mine or of any use, so what do i do then put him down??

not having ago just a bad life i think

Hey, didn't mean to upset you

Has the horse been rested for any significant time at all? Does he live in or out? If in, could he live out? If it is stiffness it should help.
I assume he isn't insured.. could you call the vet out just the once. It may be something really straightforward that is easily treated and then you could get on with selling him.

he gets ridden once a week at present lives out 24/7 no rug it is summer after all. he is insured but not sure if it covers vets bills of anything other than accidental injury would have to look on forms.

yes it may be something straightforward but if its not im bug*ered.

sorry im just having a bad day, keep nearly crying, and i dont cry easily.

anyway i gave him another lunge and didnt look lame once, i filmed it if anyone wants to see.

Hey all, hope you are all well - devestated for MrsM
frown.gif

ldlp it really doesn't sound like ur having a good time either. How long has he been on/off lame?

dunno coz he rarely gets used and he only hacks when he does and doesnt appear to be lame, altho im never the one that rides him.

If he is hardly used and is usually just hacked what has changed in his routine to notice the lameness? Was the lamesness noticed whilst hacking or was it doing something he doesn't normally do? It could just be that he has been continuously lame an its with a change of normal riding that has highighted this. I understand what you are saying about the cost of vets but if it isn't improving I'd be inclined to get a call out for some kind of diagnosis and take it from there as to what you want to do.

well its mainly on unlevel ground as in field work, having said that back when he was being ridden he was doing small jumps etc and seemed fine, but again i wasnt the rider.

i just dont know what to do anymore, everything has just been dumped on me.

From what you've said, it sounds like he's lame when asked to do some circles (having to bring his hind legs through and underneath0

This could be just arthiritic/general stiffness, but could also be something a bit more serious and degenerative. Are you sure it's not an abscess?

Do you know how to do flexion tests? Not 100% accurate I know, but could give you an idea.

Without a vet checking him over, I don't think you're going to get to the bottom of this problem. Also, if you are planning to sell him, it will reflect on his price.

Perhaps carry on with the feeding side for a couple of days, give him a few days off and then ask him to lunge again. If he's not right then I think a vet is the only way to go.

Sorry! and fingers crossed for you x Hope it's nothing at all to worry about.
grin.gif

but its a front he has problem with

here is second lunge he had today no comments on how crap my lunging is please..

need quite sure how to do flexion tests.

I'm so sorry, I'm getting confused, thought it was his hind!!!

Right, just had a look at your video. It's bit hard to tell, as the camera jiggles a bit, but agree he doesn't look lame on the lunge. However, he does look a little stiff behind in trot and doesn't quite track up. Now, that may be his way of going, but he also looks tight across his back, and poking his nose to the outside in a form of evasion.

Have you tried getting him to work long and low on the lunge, he would work his back better, and then you would get a better idea.

It's so hard to say from a video, but it seems like he's not very fit (sorry) and needs to come back into work slowly, to improve his movement.

Idlp, this is probably all rubbish to you, but, if I've given you anything you can use or question, I'm glad to help. I must admit, he looks like my mare when she's been out of work!!
grin.gif
grin.gif
and atm I'm used to seeing the others, who naturally have more "swing" through their backs!!

hes not very fit and was poking his nose to outside, altho sometimes that was to look at fencer coz it was cracking well!!

i think thats his trot he kinda shuffles right?

trying to do things slowly but dont have time to exercise 2, hence the short bursts on lunge.

dont know what to do now with regards to these people wanting to come again. should i take him to vet to check him, not calling him out as they charge £35 just for callout!

yes they seemed to think it was a hind but to me it looks like his all white front leg so??
