Sweet FA....Saturday!!!

Actually, since I've come home, I've been bombarded with "look at this one!!" or "I luuuuv this one!" OMG, what were they dreaming up!!!

I did find one over in Cambridge direction which looks quite nice. To be honest, I think I'm losing the will to live, with the horse hunting. I don't think, in all these years, I have ever come across so many badly described, or mis described, in some cases, horses!!

I don't know how to get to the advert, but I think, if I remember correctly, he's 11, and has done all PC/RC activities, ridden in a snaffle for everything and hacks out alone and in company. Also think they put that his paces are good, and he does a decent test.

Can't remember to what level though

What's happening with Dodger?? Do you think it's just a confidence thing when she goes somewhere new??

Slinky - I bet you're tired out, after all you have had a hell of a time these last few days!!

I think it is a confidence thing because last night we took her out round the bit she reared at last week and repeated the exercise where the other pony went away adn she didn't bother. I think she is testing him to the absolute limit to see what he does. He was great today, growled at her and gave her a big PC kick and she came down and plodded on like nothing had happened.

She has been great in the stable and field, was a star at PC club on Tuesday and on the hacks Wed, Thur and Fri and then was a madam today but only for that split second.

Thoughts?

I think she is just settling in. Must be strange for her going from a RS to a private yard and no buddies and her 'routine' completely changed. I think the fact it was the only thing she has done and was otherwise good shows she is settling in. If she is still being a baggage after a month I would worry.

We've called the RS to let them know and they were shocked - well we expected that really didn't we! We have said that we are giving her the benefit of the doubt but there will be problems if this continues so we'll see how it goes.

Well poor LL didn't get taken out today

Laddie was away with his grandparents, and lassie's Mum couldn't get over to us.

Ho hum.

But, someone did ride Dizzy and did very well
grin.gif
. I need to have someone who can ride her mid-week when I have to work away. Was weird as, other than at Newmarket, no-one else has ridden her. She was pretty well behaved, took the mickey a bit though, so I got on and explained, and then she got back on and they were grand
smile.gif
. Was definately weird to see someone else ride her though!

I think you've hit the nail on the head! With RS ponies, they tend to use every trick in the book. Maybe at some time, she's managed to get out of work by doing this, and, as she's in a new environment, thinks this is the way out of her working.

I also think it is a confidence issue too, it's funny, but, if the rider can handle this, then consistently telling her no, as he did today, will give her the confidence to believe in her rider. Don't forget, at a RS, the ponies often have nervous and novice riders, who perhaps have not had the confidence to kick her on!

I'll quickly tell you about one of ours, she was very spooky, no confidence, but with P_P riding her regularly, and being firm but fair, her confidence has increased ten fold! It just takes a bit of time.

I do think that it takes at least six months before horse/pony and rider really get to know each other and form a strong bond.

Keep going, she's a lovely pony, and as long as he doesn't mind these odd moments,(and all tack, teeth etc have been checked) then she will be fine

I agree with f_s - I just think she is building her confidence up. In any RS they stop thinking as they don't have to - just follow the one in front - she is just finding her mojo again. You said she was fine at PC - well that is what she has been used to - being with other ponies. I think she will settle fine - and as long as rider remains unfazed and is happy she will blossom.

S_V, is the lad quite light? Do you have a slightly heavier rider that could sit on her? Just that our little Dartmoor was an absolute git when we got him. Put my son on him, after thoroughly checking him over, and hey presto, different pony!!!

He then fell in love with my daughter, and attempted to bite my son at every opportunity!!!

I agree with you all - settling for sure - I do have a couple of heavier wee riders so I will try that too - worst comes to the worst it'll be me and hell mend her then lol!!! I think as long as the mum doesn't lose her nerve she'll be a cracker cause the wee jockey is a confident wee guy.

Teeth were done on Thursday, new saddle fitted Tuesday so they are ruled out. Mojo being re-found - I agree!

Is it the one in Latest News? I have just replied. There will be an update on Monday - the staff are essential stable staff etc at weekends and with nearly 500 to look after didn't want to bother them unnecessarily. Any major change they would tell me - hopefully it will be a peaceful weekend of eating and gathering admirers on the staff!! Spud already has a fan club there.....
