Sweet FA...THURSDAY!

No point in deep littering on mats!

I have rubber matting and it can smell. It works best if a) the floor is skimmed and b) the stable floor drains properly.

I have a full shavings bed and sweep back every day to allow the pee patch to dry out. If you dont use bedding I think you are supposed to lift and power hose occassionally but they weigh a ton.

They make for a better surface for horses standing in a lot plus you dont get the bruising injuries such as capped elbows hocks etc.

You definitly cant deep litter straw it goes horribly slimey and gungey.
The cleaner horses just have a small bank at the back and shavings pulled forward to pee and poo. Because my horse is so big and so important he needs a deep fluffy bed to curl up in like some giant poufy labrador.

Ali and Pads will spend quie a bit of time indoors over winter - more Ali tho so that's one of the main reasons I want them. How much are the Stovie things Slinks for a bed then the upkeep?

I am having a tonne delivered which should do both of mine through the winter - including setting them up - and that is about £250 including delivery.

You can get them in sacks or a big builders bag - the cheapest is the big builder bag. Last year when I tried them I got half a tonne in 10 kgs bags - each stable took about 10 bags - i like deep beds that cover the whole stable - and then just topped up as and when needed.
