Sweet FA....Thursday

Sam - sore head, throat and sneezing /runny nose, aching jaw and back, sweaty one minute cold the next however I don't have the runs and haven't been sick which is the other two symptoms (soz anyone eating their lunch).

Do you think you have it?

ldlp - truffles like the ones at Christmas? If so can you keep me one til I get better
smile.gif

I'm feeling very lethargic, sore throat, light headed and feel hot and cold but I'm not sweating, and gone right off eating

smile.gif
but yes there is truffles for anyone who wants some ...well almost ready
grin.gif

I'm right off eating too which is a big worry - I'm never off eating.

The quack did say that there are 5 flu viruses going round at the mo including the pig flu and they are struggling to differentiate between them without swab testing as the symptoms are so similar. So that is why I have been swab tested. Obviously because of my job too the doc wanted me off for a week until the results are back even if I begin to feel better.

so did you go to docs or just talk over the phone, if I do have it, its probably too late as I've been working in the shop
blush.gif

will read reply later, got to go back to work
crazy.gif

Phoned the docs and gave my symptoms - the lassie on the phone asked me questions on a flu questionaire they have and then the doc phoned me back and asked me to go in at the end of surgery. She said that the government are saying the docs shouldn't be seeing those that they think have it but she wants to see people as she said some have pneumonia and other things and you'd only know that by seeing the patients.

I've been told to drink lots of fluids, paracetamol and rest lots.

I'm bored stiff!

Flops back in…………….

Blimey you lot seem like you’ve got it bad,

f_s_ sorry for the late reply, have been signed off here for a while. Actually the past couple of days have been warmer than earlier in the week, but she's an old arab and I really don't want her to lose weight. Plus she was out in her mw yesterday and the girls working at the yard said she seemed a bit cold, oh, forgot, and she has a blanket clip. Plus it was raining all day yesterday and her mw is wet. Are you near Newcastle?

I have terrible new mammy syndrome and worry that I'm making all the wrong choices! Argh!!

I have just had my lesson on the BGL (stressage test Prelim 7 for Nov 14) and it absolutely piddled down!!
shocked.gif
Me, the BGL and my RI were soaked through - right down to socks and knickers!!
blush.gif
The worst thing is my lovely new stressage saddle also had a soaking - he is here next to me drying out in the sitting room as is my bridle - will wipe them over and put some leather dressing on later.

Just having a quick cuppa than have to nip into town as when I was in the building society earlier getting some money I left some of it behind!! They phoned to let me know - restores your faith in human nature doesn't it??
smile.gif

Catch you in bit - S_V look on the brightside it could be you with a soggy ned and wet knickers...........

I have a fleece, was considering that but wasn't sure if she'd get too hot! I have too much to think about, I'm sure horse owning isn't half as confusing as I'm making it!

Will she need a hw as it gets colder and really set into winter?

With wee Al I work rugs as follows:
Summer - light weight kagool to keep the chill off when it rains (we're in Sctland so it rains lots)
Sept to Nov approx - medium weight adding his wee feece when the chill comes in.
Dec - Feb/Mar - heavy weight with fleece.

Then I reduce it back to his kagool through end March to May/June.

He is 25 yrs old and not clipped but I find he feels the cold quite easily - to be fair he always has done. if she seems chilled in her mw at the moment then I would try a wee fleece, if she is too hot then take it back off but if she seems chilly at the moment she's maybe needing it.

How old is she?

She's 20 (21 in feb and having a party). tbh I didn't think she felt the cold but with the girls saying she seemed cold yesterday figured she might be now she's clipped. But then it was raining aaaaall day yesterday so maybe that didn't help.

I think it's freezing at the moment but am assured that for horses it's really not, and I know I feel the cold like you wouldn't believe. Maybe I should get another mw so that if one is wet I can use the other, and put a fleece under if she's cold, at least until the really cold weather starts when I can use a hw

She will feel it colder if she is clipped. Do you keep her in at night? Feel the base of her ears and in at her dock to see if she is warm or not.

Yeah she's stabled at night now, mainly because of the mud and lack of grass, poor thing is hungry!

I check her ears and she seems warm but not as warm as I've known her to be previously (did that make any sense). Didn't know about checking the dock so will do that too.

Thanks for all your help S_V, I'm a total wuss when it comes to rugs and appreciate the help.

And sorry to everyone else, I appear to have hijacked the sweet fa thread!

No worries, anytime. Always go with your gut instinct when i comes to horses, I always have and 9 times out of 10 you are right. If she seems cold to you warm her up with a wee fleece and a good groom that will stimulate her muscles. Its all a learning curve but you'll be grand

SU - What a bum your saddle getting wet, I dread the day my new one gets a drenching
frown.gif

I hope your sitting room isn’t too warm, on the care label of my Ideal it says “Allow to dry in a dry coolish room”.

Hope it’s ok.
