Anyway, farrier been, all sorted out and all ok. Front shoes on daughter's horse as her feet need a bit of support, but Farrier says they're not as bad as I think. I'm just a wee bit fussy!!!

Have you tried adding a bit of oil to his feed, soya oil, or even vegetable oil. It helps loosen the joints.

Fine thanks S_V. Relaxing after last night's drama, and putting my feet up.

How are you? Glad to be back? Or is the holiday mood still with you?

Glad ur taking it easy! Glad to be back cause I miss home when I'm away but also wish I was still in the sun!

Padster was a crazy horse today after spening the day in his new field, things the grass went to his head - I was bouncing around like a looney going along the road!

I think the weather is getting to all of them atm!!!

My mare has been such a pain over the last two days, she's run through fencing and fired all the others up!!

I really enjoyed the whole holiday - the cruise staff are fab, you are spoiled all day, drinks topped up and endless food supplies. Didn't go to the casio or the club much this time, we just chilled out at the piano bar at night mainly. Lliked all the stops except Kusadasi.

f_s was it u or slinks that helped me with a feed thing for Ali?

Evening!!

Well you'll be glad to hear there was no hangover this morning
d015.gif
- just bit tired
b010.gif
!! We spent this afternoon building chariots and having chariot races - yes I do get paid to do this stuff..........anyway the team I was in won and we are ahead in the competition at the moment - got to get through tomorrow - the winners get a weeks salary so obviously gagging to win!!
grin.gif

f_s - glad to hear drama is over and everyone is ok

S_V - it was me - how is he doing on it?

Well done slinks on the chariot winning - its always good to win!

Well I was going to do a wee update on Ali:
He now is in his new field which has more grass albeit not great lush grass but that suits me fine incase of laminitis etc. He gets 2 feeds a day - sugar beet, 16+ and a big heap of Dengie Senior in each and superflex. At night he gets rack stuffed with hay, one of the feeds and a bucket full of the Molli Veteran u recommended - he seems to be getting there - am I on over kill now or does that sound ok?

Am deliberating on hay or haylage for this winter - so any advice ...

Sounds ok - is he eating it all? He is getting lots of fibre which is the important thing.

Both of mine have hay as they both love it and polish off every last stalk - coblet can't have haylage due to lami anyway but Nixon can and will eat anything!! but our hay is lovely good quality stuff and obviously lots cheaper.

He's eating it all apart from some of the hay is left in the morning. I just wasn't sure if it was all too much in the feeds but I'm not really available to give him 3 or 4 smaller feeds. At first he ate his feed then the whole bucket with the mollichaff but I think he's got the hang of it now lol!

I feed haylage, as I find it works out cheaper for me. Then again, I do have five mouths to feed, six last winter, so went through an awful lot of hay!!!

It depends really. I didn't find any adverse effects with the haylage despite having to watch for laminitis.

It may be dearer if you are just feeding the two though, and good quality hay is just as good.

Have you added a bit of pink powder to Ali's feed, I found that brilliant for the big mare who really needed to put a bit of weight on after the winter

I just knew you'd be building rafts or chariot racing Slinky!!!

I think it just balances their gut, and helps them to absorb their vitamins and minerals in the feed better. I found it really good on mine, she's getting on a bit now, and needs that boost.

Also, I think she has had ulcers in the past, and I find the pink powder really helps those symptoms. She's certainly full of the joys of spring atm, and thinks she's a four year old!!!

We pay £2 bale of hay and the cheapest small bale of haylage is about a fiver - the are big bales of haylage available but I wouldn't get through it fast enough to make it worth while buying - even though they would clearly do their best to rise to the challenge!!!
d060.gif

I guess you need to work out cost and storage - that may help you make a descision!!

Our small bales of hay are £3.90!!!!!!!! A large round bale of hay is £35 and Haylage i think is £30. The small haylage are £5.90.

I know what you mean, you see I get through a big bale quite quickly, so it works out better for me.

S_V can you see an improvement in Ali already?

f_s I think I can see him improving a bit - I mean he wasn't awful but certainly slimmer than he's been before hopefully the better grazing will help

Ta for kind thoughts and wishes

. It isn't the most scintillating of contracts, but should keep me amused for a while.

f_s how's your FIL? Hugs hunny.

It's taken me ages to get this far - blasted computers! I'm orff to bed in a mo'. Think I'm going to drive in tomorrow instead of training it - I need my chill out space

Sweet dreams all.

Better grazing will definitely help. It's quite amazing the results when they get to better grass!!!
