Sweet FA....Tuesday!!

Just had a word with P_P and she said the same, thought we'd have a look at YHL and take it from there.

If they are of comparable quality (I'm sure they are good quality) then we can get one there

Great price too!!

DL - My little mare is a bit like that too but I'll always keep her in a link (not needs contact more.. if you dont have contact be prepared for a lot of spooking) I was thinking though about putting some apple juice on her bit to get her to drool hopefully.. see what i can spread on it

See mines got both copper and sweet iron in it, but hm.

Anyone have any tips for an over-active right hand pulling the bit through? :/ Annoying habit and I find it so hard to jus let go/ soften!!

Last question of the day, I promise
grin.gif

Please don't take this the wrong way DL, and you probably already know this but:

Drop your rein!!! Try riding on the outside rein only, with a light contact
grin.gif

It can be done, honestly! and you don't need an inside rein anyway if you use your seat and legs!
grin.gif

In fact, you shouldn't really need reins at all, they are only for guidance

I think the sprenger bits are the best tbh.

The NS ones are ok, but not what I expected and I thought the quality wasn't so good.
smile.gif

See thats the weird thing f_s , I ride from the outside rein etc and get the inside bend from my legs ..but for some reason I still hold onto it
confused.gif
That doesn't really make sence on paper does it?

I've found riding with the rein through my whole hand (mexican reins?
crazy.gif
has helped a little, and holding my inside hand a little higher to make it weaker but bah. I wish I could just have the one rein... but that'd make changing rein interesting
blush.gif

Would you consider holding the front of the saddle with the rein you pull on??
smile.gif

Sort of letting your hand rest, then taking up that rein when you change so you are riding with the outside one only?

You know, I'm not explaining this very well, I hope you can picture it!!!

Hm , I hadn't thought of that one - makes sence!

I was thinking of strapping a belt around my elbows etc to stop them from creeping forward / gripping etc but that sounds like a more humilation-free idea
grin.gif

Right, you're really going to laugh now, as I have just sat on the arm of the chair to work this one out, as though I am riding!!!

You could also push your hand forward more with that rein, keeping it lifted though

Well, I didn't have a horse handy in the living room!!!

Thats what I've started doing this week
grin.gif
It really did work on my lesson and felt nice and elastic rather than pulled through like on my own.

Now to get it on my own...
grin.gif

I appreciate the effort to help!

OH is home now, I did think about asking him if he would play horses, and I would get some strings for reins, then thought......I'd better not!!!!

I've been doing a lot of lunge lessons recently, teaching people as well, I find I tend to lock a lot of my arms and back (nervousness but sometimes others find its stiffness), have you ever tried turning your hand to motorbike position (only for 2 seconds) and back out? it releases the stress of your hand as you have to change the movement.. also frees arms and wrists. Another one is to hold the rein in only maybe your first two fingers/last two fingers, as you wont have as much force as you would with a third finger (hope this is making sense)
grin.gif

I had to put my arms out and hands like I do to think about that last bit!

Thanks one and all ! Hope the chaos dies down in the FS household soon

It's getting late

You'll be fine!!
smile.gif

When's your debut??
grin.gif

I just have to ask, when you were younger (about 7 or 8) did you play cowboys and indians, and did you have a gun that made battle noises when you pulled the trigger??

Just that OH thinks I'm weird, and I always wanted to be the Indian

I don't remember playing cowboys and indians however I do remember pretending the oldest JRT was a race horse, who I'd tie (via a lead) to the end of a radiator when it was off, and "pick his feet out" and groom him. Also used to make a stall with my arms and throw a toy, then let him out
grin.gif
grin.gif
However he wasn't very good being hot like a TB, he enjoyed the fuss and was rubbish at bringing back the toy

He didn't take kindly to me putting a julip person on him though..
