what's happened?

hi snoopy sue yes i ahve acushings pony and he gets 1 pergolide tabelet each day htis has allowed his coat to settle down and be a bit more settled and has stablized his symptoms.it is a very good treatment and i would highly recommend it. my pony is one of the youngest ponies on record of having the condition as he is 8 years old and was 6 when he was diagnosised

as posted before this is how his coat looked like

It's Tiger, came in dog lame today, vet coming in the morning. Not even anything to do with the ground collapsing underneath him and him sinking down to his hocks as I walked him out the new gateway. Another shocking failing from the Livery Yard of doom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Samstar: If I go into a shop such as sainsburys, I come out with allsorts lol.
Chocolate/sweets/crisps/fizzy drinks lol, and then I sit at home and stuff my face :P
I don't do it often though lol

hi guys toby is home and seems happy to be home. he is still a lot quiter than normal but hopefully he can now get him back to fully fittness with his bag of tricks as he has some amount of drugs to take at the moment

Thanks tikino mine is 13 i have googled cushings , i really hope tests come back negative for his sake. But want to be prepared for the future. Vet said it would cost around 3 or 4 pound a week to keep him on these tablets because he is so small 33 in which is nothing really is it.

thanks wimbles im hoping that they have got to the bottom of it now as his insurance is now dead and i have already got £700 outwith this and he has returns appiontment gastroguard etc but hes worth it

Tikino - really glad Toby is home, and hope that he gets better soon now, I'm sure he's much happier with you

Wimbles - Oh no!! Fingers crossed that it is only a strain

Snoopy - pergolide is a great drug for cushings, but it takes a while to get the correct dosage. You might have to start on one tablet, but then decrease it to three quarters, half etc. until it's right, so it might not even work out at 3 or 4 pounds a week.

I must admit if Tikino's pony is having one tablet, and yours is 33 inches then one seems quite a lot

Is it when he starts to walk, after being in?? I always understood this to be the gas from the joints, and not arthritis
crazy.gif
A bit like people who can click their finger joints!!!

With arthritis, there is stiffness, and may even be some heat around the joint. If you're worried, you could always feed a joint supplement or put some oil in the feed.

Oh thats good he,s insured so the first year is free i hope. He,s with petplan and they are pretty good at paying up, but then i have never claimed in my life so something will go wrong.

He's 9 years old and has been doing pure Dressage for the majority of it (poor boy!!). it's just the clicks, even when I warm up the clicks are still there... I might get the chiro/osteo out to check his pevis isn't out. But it's a bit of a worry as I'm not sure whether it should be a worry or not!

and yeh FS it's actually always after he's been in thinking about it... sorry just so paranoid
blush.gif
he's had such a difficult life and I don't want anything to go wrong for him, he's such a sweety
grin.gif

If it's after he's been standing in, it probably is the gas popping in the joints (that's not a technical term by the way!!

).

Just make sure that he's not uncomfortable, or willing to move, or that he isn't as "fluid" as normal. If he's fine then feeding a joint supplement won't hurt anyway

And if you are worried, you could always ring your vet and just ask a quick question, to put your mind at rest

Thanks FS! He's definitely not uncomfortable, but if it gets worse I will definitely call the vet! Phew! He's such a big mover and so active behind, and because he's on loan with a view to buy, I want to makesure I'm not putting him through pain or causing problems for his actual owner, even though it would be me lumbered with the vet bill! lol

oooh... cuppa anyone? I have some hob nobs somewhere too...
grin.gif

Slinky, thank you for that, I didn't know how to explain it!!!

I agree with you f_s - its the movement of nitrogen bubbles out of the joints.

A lot of them do it - really nothing to worry about.
