I'm upset with YO tonight, long story short - Belle's stable has a grille between her and stable next door and if there's no-one in next stable she gets upset an box walks, canters on the spot etc, until she's really sweated up and won't stop until someone is put in next stable. YO knows this and knows Belle well. Anyway, tonight they are weaning one of the foals, so he is in the stable next door to Belle, with the top door shut and the grille blocked off with wood. Luckily she settled but what if she gets upset during the night, I won't know and she'll end up getting colic if she stressed too much! Of all the stables they cud have used, the one next to mine was a bad idea.
Belle listened really carefully at the grille and whinnied to him when he shouted for his mammy, it was so cute. I think she knows there's someone in there as she was really listening, and called to him, and I could hear him eating hay so she definitely could. She was eating her hay and wasn't running to the door after every mouthful, just gonna have to wait and hope she's ok, though I'm quite happy she was settled before I left
JS - I think it's probably in your favour. It sounds as though Belle is happier with company, and the foal is providing this, even if she can't see the foal, she can hear the movement etc.
Don't worry too much, I know it's awful when they start to box walk etc, but with company, any company (any port in a storm in the case of horses
Hey all, just in from PC club and doing the RC books for tomorrows AGm so I'm super busy - how are we all - any short run down on the 8 pages you have managed to muster up?
Thanks f_s_. She seemed fine so I'm not too worried, just wish I'd been given some notice as if she had been upset I'd not have much time to sort it out. A quick text wouldn't have hurt.
It was really sweet though, she was definitely listening really hard at the grille, then seemed to decide there was someone there, and started eating her haynet. I think she'd have made a great mammy if she was younger. The foal seemed pretty settled too, just called out a couple of times but not panicky. Belle just called back, bless. Plus I think it helps that the yard was quite - if there'd been horses moving around and going out in the field she'd have been much worse. She knows the bedtime routine now and most of the other horses were in so plenty to keep her calm, and if she'd been going to get upset she would have done it by the time we left (we hid around the corner in the dark to see if she started box walking but was fine
