What about oil, It's been great for Mick. I just use Morrisons corn oil (Mazola).

It's been a bit cooler lately too, ours have started loosing their coats!

Are you going to watch at Eglinton on Sat? They text me my very sociable times at 5.55 this morning. Very funny, I don't think!

Or I'd try haylage. I give mine 3/4 scoop 16+, scoop alf alfa lite, seaweed, pink powder, biotin, and garlic and speedy beet. She was like a hat rack coming out of the winter, but haylage did help.

Agree they need more forage rather than hard feed, but sometimes it's better to start on some feed to get them going, then gradually cut back feeding more forage when they start to put a bit more weight on.

I will say, there's nothing like good grass to help their weight gain, but, if you can't do that, the feed will help!

Man, 3 scoops a day on top of his feed is quite a bit more than I give Ali the now, I think I will maybe bring him in again at night until i sort this out - I usually like him to go into winter with a bit of beef so I don't want to leave this trunelling along. Prob with it going into a tub in the field is that I have a big greedy ISH that would gobble it all up - including the tub if given half the chance lol! I think I'll bring him in at night and introduce this mollichaff and se how it goes - would I continue with the Dengie Senior in his feeds also?

Nic - was thinking about going along on Saturday - 5.55am does seem slightly insociable yes but why were you not up riding ur pony?!?!? lol!! (was worried oil might hype up already mr excitable which is why I hadn't tried it)

Nic & I are on between 14.00-16.00, 2 sociable events in a row, I'm in trouble for next time!

Oil is slow release energy so shouldn't have a heating effect at all.
 
It is a lot but Harvey is very old and very special and really doesn't do grass very well anymore. I would just start him off with a big sccopful in another bucket alongside his dinner so he can eat in peace without naughty Paddy troughing it!! That way you can be sure he is getting it all! I would see how he gets on with it - if he likes it you could gradually replace his Dengie Senior with it - it costs about £6.50/7 for a bag.
 
Cheers Slinks - I was planning on heading over to feed merchants tomorrow to square up my bill so I will ask about it then for sure - cheers all for your help - just a bit worried about my precious boy!

Hadn't realised that about oil so I will rethink that one.
