Sweet iron bits??

I was browsing through types of bit, and I noticed there are a few made out of 'Sweet Iron' rather than the normal stainless steel or what-not, I was just wondering what advantages/disadvantages there are to sweet iron? And why do some people opt for it over stainless steel? :confused:

+ What is the difference between a link and a lozenge?
 
I believe the sweet iron gives off a better taste for the horse which encourages mouthing and acceptance of the bit.
I didnt realise that they actually go rusty once used which is what they are supposed to do, i was a bit shocked to begin with and nearly took it back to complain :D
 
If you want a bit which has a different taste but doesn't go rusty try a copper bit or a copper alloy. The neue schule and sprenger bits are made of nice tasting material :)
 
The different metals affect how your horses react to the bit, copper and sweet iron bits encourage the horse to salivate which relaxes their mouth so they are more relaxed in your hand which will relax your body which then will relax your horse.

As for the link you can get a single jointed bit which I would say is your normal bit and you can get double jointed bits, depending on how sensitive your horse is in the mouth he may not like the action of a certain bit. Some bits are thinner aswell so if your horse has a big mouth and not a lot of room he/ she may prefer a smaller mouth piece.
