My Welshie is now 21 and retired.
He has always suffered with dermatophilis (sweat scald/rain scald) which made him quite itchy and uncomfortable but I've learned how to manage that and isn't a problem.
But for the last two years, around May time, he has become incredibly itchy all over his body and has twice now rubbed himself raw in his stable. (At the side of his bum but not really his tail) He's currently in a smallish paddock surrounded be electric fence so nowhere to rub when out but sometimes I like him to come in off the grass. Last year vet came out and prescribed Prednisolone (steroid paste) which cleared it up. I've now got some more of this but am on last dose today and, although improved, rubbed himself raw again yesterday so now I'm panicking.
I'll speak to the vet again tomorrow but wondering if anyone has had anything similar.
I'm inclined to think it's an allergy to something in the pasture and there is cow parsley in this pasture which we don't have in other fields. I do strip graze.
Any thoughts/experiences welcome.
