Sweet itch,, benzyl benzonate???

google it and one of the sites where you can get wormers from do's a really large bottle I actually mix mine with horse fly spray even though mine don't get sweet itch its very succesful will try and find the site later.

You can get it from a chemist as Ascabiol lotion. It won't be a big bottle and you'll have to tell the pharmacist you've got scabies lol - just don't tell them its for a horse. Worked for me :)

Dodson and Horrell 'Killitch' is the only thing that is licenced to sell it on the horse market - you should be able to get that from most tack shops. As already said you can get it from chemists but dont say its for a horse or they wont sell it to you!

im sure ive used the one from hyperdrug before and if i remeber rightly it seemed to have been waterd down.. :-/
Ive googled it as well and not much has come up to be honest.
Thanks anyway

I've always got it from a human online pharmacy - don't remember it of the top of my head I'm afraid, I just googled it and got it at the cheapest place!! Killitch is just a benzylbenzoate solution (it isn't possible to buy a 100% bottle of it - it will be in solution with some waxes etc to keep it in solution, it is why it is milky) - exactly the same as the human stuff just much more expensive! This place is pretty cheap http://www.thehealthcounter.com/view/detail/2081
When I ordered it the form asked who it was for etc, I honestly wrote it was for my horse, for the treatment of sweet itch, no other medical probs, person over 18 ordering and applying it - no probs, I recieved it a couple of days later!
Just remember not to apply to broken skin!

Benzyl benzoate - ah that stuff brings back memories of streaming eyes as my pony had such bad sweet itch he used to have open wounds on his body. I still use it but dilute it down as my Luso doesn't have sweet itch, but does get a bit itchy on mane and tail, I stockpiled it a couple of years ago as I was told that under EU regulations, it was not going to be sold in this country, please tell me otherwise so I can buy some more. Our local pharmacy told us it did not meet regs, I know of a lady who makes her own potion and have seen the before and after photos, the pony used to be so bad vets actually advised putting him down as he was in so much pain, fly rugs would be rubbed off by him.

hi oh no really it does seem much earlier than last year :mad: was walking past a field th other day and i did see a horse twitching with the flies :mad: so the battle starts i don't feel ive finished with mud fever yet :eek:
sorry went off in a tangent there lol. i get mine from my vet

Must admit I've got my mare on Cavelesse, she's on the second dosage, one more to go and she's not rubbed once and she is a chronic sweet itch person, mane tail belly neck face legs and ears, still have everything crossed, is expensive at £82, but to me worth every penny, to see her sp relaxed and not a rug in sight as she went through two Boetts last year, you can olny get it through your vet and have to start a week or two before the midges start, but well worth it.
