sweet itch & box rest

Hi all, my horse suffers from sweet itch and is out 24-7 in a rug. Due to a leg problem he needs 2 weeks box rest. Does anyone know if he will need his rug on in the stable or should it come off for the period?

If you take it off he'll rub out his mane and tail, also make sure the tail is well padded my pony wears a thermatex with head and neck attachment and tail guard when inside during the spring and autumn and has pyjamas in the summer which in lighter but still covers him from nose to tail

Defo leave it on. By all means take it off to brush and pamper pony but do put it back on after.
