I have used a Boett on my horse for four years. It is quite effective but last year her face was badly affected. I bought a hood with the mesh covering the eyes but I am not sure how to attach it to the Boett (I got it via ebay). Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, it is quite difficult to put on and was thinking about putting velcro underneath so it could be put on like a fly mask - do you think this would work? What do people do when their horse is stabled to prevent them rubbing their face? Do the fly neck bands work? I use the sweet itch salve from Netex but it is quite gloopy, does anyone use a lotion which they find works OK? Sorry for all the questions!

I found my horse was more irritated by wearing the mask then without it. Can you add loops to the rug and mask to connect them?

Have you tried the Boett hood? Its pretty good although I had to adjust it to fit my cobs head with velcro. It comes with clips to attach to the rug. If you rang them I'm sure they would send you some clips as they do spares..

My boy has been itching his face and the very top of his neck as well. There's horrid rubbed patches on him. He seriously objects to me taking the Boett on and off though (so I rarely do, I ride him it it etc.), think he'd go nuts if I had to pull on a face one as well!!

You could try just a normal mask - I use Rambo fly masks when its really bad.

I use the Shires Full face fly masks (er rip off of the cashel crusader!), they have a forelock hole, so when my boy goes bald I do patch this, but leave a hole so I can attach hood to rug with baler twine

I have just bought a full face boett hood from Divoza, much harder to put on, but leaves less exposed. Haven't attached to the rug yet.

This may seem odd but I read somewhere that feeding marmite helps with SI. something to do with the pong or taste of the horses skin when midge goes to bite?
