Sweet itch on a hairy cob

How do you go about applying lotions etc to a fully coated, long mane, forlock and feathers cob? do you clip it all off? :s

I have a hairy cob, she has mild sweet itch. I feed her brewers yeast as a supplement. I also use benzyl benzoate which I apply down the middle of her mane and on the top of her tail. Sweet it h shouldn't affect the feathers, if they are itchy your horse may have feather mites.

How do you get the BB on with a thick long mane? People are telling me I will have to hog it (i will do if it would make her more comfortable).
