Hi everyone,
I've got a sports type friesian who really suffers from the flys and midges. It got so bad last summer he ripped his fly rug appart and rubbed himself raw. This year things are a lot more under control and I just need a new boett type sweet itch rug to put him at ease this summer!

Can anyone recommed me a good rug to go for? I've been looking at the new Masta Bug Rug which is really reasonable at £80! I've read some good reviews but just wondered if anyone on here has got one and if so what are they like?

Also, do these sweet itch rugs tend to come up smaller than your average rug?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Hi

I bought my boy the Rambo sweet itch hoody, its £130 but I think really does the job, he still scratches slightly but not half as much as he used to! I heard some really good reviews about this rug and so far they've all been true!!

ditto the Rambo Sweet Itch Hoody. i bought my girl a cheaper fly rug, she trashed it in 2 months. the Hoody is doing its second summer and hasn't even got a snag or a rip, and she doesn't itch at all in it. never rubs, brilliant bit of kit.

ditto rambo sweet itch hoody. it is expensive but stops almost al lrubbing on mane and tail, although i do find as it doesnt wrap up belly area this still gets bitten quite alot so have to apply creams daily to that area..it seems more think material than the other rugs hence it works better..

prem equine ones are good value and reeeeeally hold together well rip stop material, was featured in a recent h&h... would def check it out they tend to be sound and would certainly fit a fresian nicely

I have a boett for my boy and it has completely stopped the rubbing so I would recommend one even if they are expensive.

Customer service has been top notch too

I'm another rambo sweet itch hoody fan - all four of ours are in them, sweet itch sufferers or not. We generally get at least 3 seasons from them. All of our horses have gone a size up in them though, they are all good middleweights with good chests... I would reccommend having two of them for a real itcher, so that you can swop them over and dry one in wet weather - this is when the midges are at their worst..

My only criticism of them is the clips at the front - I'd much much prefer buckles that you can adjust. We got home from Badminton at midnight to find our hunter had clipped himself to the plain wire of the fence whilst leaning over, and goodness knows how long he'd been stood there - my dad had checked them all at 7pm! Good job he doesn't panic!
