Help! Our mini shetland needs a new 4' sweet itch rug. We have always had her in a boett blanket but I am sick to death of them tearing at the slightest thing.
She does get SI badly so needs a proper SI rug. Looked at the rambo ones but nothing comes as small as 4foot!
Dinky rugs don't do a decent rug for SI which is a real shame as all their other rugs fit her beautifully.
Anyone found a good very small rug?

When I got my Welsh A he was in 4ft rugs

I have an Amigo bug rug which wasn't bad at all, not sure what size they come in these days though, its dragged out as a spare even now

Ruggles make a decent mini fly rug with a belly band which may work if the SI isn't too bad, they are in their clearance section too I think currently

Snuggy Hoods always win the day for me, I use their headless hooded bug rug. Their sizes start at 4'6 however my pony more these from the start and they fitted ok when he was that small. they recently stopped doing mini sizes and had a sale so maybe worth a call to see if they have anything left

The XS size Masta bug rug also fitted my pony when he was in 4ft rugs (with some tweaking of the straps) but it also tears quite easily on the face section and is fiddly to put on

I would go for a rambo sweet itch hoody in 4'3"

my standard shetland usually takes 4'6" rugs but the rambo 4'3" is a little on the small side so next time I will go a size up

How frustrating! Not sure about alternatives that are of a non-Boett style, but have you considered at least a cheaper version of the Boett-style rugs (which might work out more affordable)?
The Pagony rugs are much cheaper (£77.50 at the link below) and go down to 4ft sizes. I've seen Pagony and true Boett rugs in action, and IMO there isn't much difference in quality/material. They last about the same, really depending on how destructive the individual horse is. At least these types of rugs are easy to fix with a normal sewing machine.

I know you are asking about rugs, but just wanted to say my friend has a shet with bad SI and she has been giving him sulphur and it has cleared it up so much.

Thank you for all your replies. My main problem is she gets sweet itch really badly. Have tried so many different lotions and potions, all that really works is a really good SI rug. Have tried Dinky rug but it isn't a proper SI rug just general fly rug. I have sent an email Sking if they can source any, will just have to keep sewing up the boett until something turns up!

I haven't actually seen one, Dinky do advertise their rug as a sweet itch, so I have sent them a message asking them to come on and clarify, Oz (Saddler)
