Hi everyone
my mare gets sweet itch really bad every year. this year im forking out on a rambo sweet itch hoody so will be using that as from this week.

my question is she has to come in overnight all year round so do i keep rug on in stable or take it off. last year i tried leaving her fly rug on in stable but it got so many poo stains and smelled!! but taking it off defeats the object??
what shall i do?? im thinking putting mozzy netting up on top of door and taking it off in eve when she comes in or else im going to have to wash it so much??:confused:

Ive got a mare with sweet itch and she comes in at night but still wears her rug at night. it does stink and gets dirty but she doesnt know that it smells.its on for a purpose so i'd leave it on all the time. its only us that worry about having to handle dirty rugs.:)

You really need two rugs so that when one gets mucky you can bung it in the wash and pop the other one on in the meantime.
If she comes in late and goes out early then you could possibly get away with taking it off overnight.

I have two. It is expensive, but my mare is grubby in the stable and a mud monster outside of it! Also I don't think it helps her itching if the rug I put on her isn't clean. She wears a clean one each week which goes on after her weekly dermoline bath - it is washed in non-bio sensitive skin washing liquid! I use ecover which she hasn't reacted to and it has a good go at the filthy rugs!
