I gave madam a good groom today including combing her mane out. When it was bushed out I realised it was a hell of a lot shorter from about a third of the way up towards her ears. I've had a look and it's a bit scabby and dandruff-y underneath. :( I've never noticed her scratching or that her mane has thinned since she's been here (I'm only just able to groom her which is why I've not noticed before) but I'm wondering if it could be something else. However, I've not had much contact with sweet Itch and although I've done some research online today I'm a bit overwhelmed by everything. Has anyone had an experience of it? When do they tend to show symptoms etc? I'm going to make an appointment with the vet to come out and check her over anyway now she's reasonably handleable but just wanted to clue myself up really.

Are we talking NF pony here? I've had 1 NF with sweet itch years ago, suffered really badly and now here I've had 1 x anglo-arab who had it and it now looks as if my four year old's got it too. Their manes are normally very scurfy with big lumps of scurfy scab, that's a bit of a clue, plus they start rubbing - soon! I am trying brewers yeast atm and will shortly be giving mane and tail a god wash.
