Last year my mare developed sweetitch for the first time. I have done everything to try and help her out. We bought lotions and potions, and a Boett rug. None of the lotions work and she hates to be rugged up in the summer.
Somebody told me about Flypor (which is used for cattle.) Since searching on the net I have come accross Spot on, Ridect and Dectomax...All cattle fly repellants. Has anybody used any of these potions? I'm not sure weather to risk trying them or not, I just want my mare to be comfortable!!

The only thing I have found to work is a sweetitch rug on 24/7 before the midges start - round here it is from march to oct I need to rug. She may well have had a prob with the rug if she was already itchy from the midges. I'm afraid I haveen't found anything else that even comes close to being as effective.

Well, towards the end of this summer my YO put spot on cattle stuff on my mare. It did repel flies to a degree, but not enough to avoid having a rug on.
