Net tex itch stop. Rafi has sweetitch and wears a snuggyhood rug which is great but he still rubs his tail and it was completely bald and grey and sore. I saw itch stop at my local feed merchant and went to buy it until I saw the price. The chap there said it really worked and I did buy it . Within a week he has a tail again and I haven't seen him rub at all. His tail now looks like it has just been pulled , all the hair has grown back. I see on lots of websites it is much cheaper than I paid but I can thoroughly recommend.

You really need a good sweetitch rug either a snuggyhood or a boett and no barbed wire as it will rip a rug. Rafi is in during the day and looks amazing except for his tail which is now sorted.
At least we can manage the condition these days. Good luck and I have tried so much stuff that doesn't work nice to find something that worked immediately

Agree that Stop Itch is very useful (if a bit messy).
I use it around the face and sheath areas in particular for my severe sweet itcher. It is costly but you don't need to use it everyday. My pot has lasted all season so far with still a 3rd left.

Ive used NAF D itch on a pony with good sucess, you have to feed a loading dose though . As long as we fed it early enough in the spring, it stopped her itching all summer

Lots of people rate this. I personally prefer to just rug and use a dettol/insecticidal shampoo wash, then killitch on mane and tail straight after the bath. He is practically sweet itch free for the first year of his life. He spent the last few years with our friends, wearing a rug that didn't cover his belly (the rambo) and tore himself to shreds, despite them using net tex. The Net Tex made his skin greasy and made him itch for a different reason. I have just rugged him, kept him out 24/7 (except now he is on box rest, and he's starting to rub now he is in) and used the shampoo like I said.

My snuggyhood rug has a tailguard built in (?) which seems to protect his tail.
