just had the vet about another matter and we got talking about sweetitch. The advice given to me was that in addition to using a sI rug to feed a balalnced omega 3 and 6 oil eg linseed oil or evening primrose and a feed balancer or suitable minerals and protein to correct any defficiency in a short hard feed, [ get forge tested.]
Also to spray/sponge with Deosect insect repellant on any exposed belly etc and feed Piriton [about 8 tablets for a 500 to 600 kg horse.

Mine has Brewers yeast, 1 scoop per feed, Clivers (fresh when in season), Micronised Linseed & a splash of cider vinegar. He's fed 2X daily during the sweet itch season.

Also I tend to stable him when midges around, to include the dawn to dusk period if possible.
