My 6 yr old gelding got a kick just above his knee on the inside quite a few weeks ago.

The swelling went down and he was never lame with it. I treated the cut and the cut has healed over but it has swollen up again this week.

He isn't lame and its not sore to the touch. The swelling doesn't pit when pressed, it is puffy on surface but hard underneath the whole part that is swollen.

His last knee injury on his other knee ended up the same as this but with cellulitus so he is a bit of a wuss when it comes to his injuries!!

Is there anything I can put on it to help the swelling go down? Have given bute but not to much effect and as he isn't lame didn't see much need for it.

ice tight? or something of that effect?
have you been keeping him on box rest? maybe put him in field to let him walk around and try and see if that helps the swelling!
hope it helps!

My gelding had a swelling from a bang in the horse box just above his shoulder point, swelling was about the size of a 50 pence, so i put Arnica and witch hazel cooling gel on it twice a day and the swelling has gone down. Hope this helps

Hi thanks for the advice. Will try some cooling gel or ice type of treatment.

He has been out in field as the swelling originally went down weeks ago but has come back up. Wonder if he has been banged on it again.

He is a playful boy with the other horses... just needs to learn to get out of the way quicker!!
