I posted a few nights ago explaining that my horse was kicked in the field, that his leg was swollen and asmuch as the swelling was goin down with hosing and walking it was still moving down his leg.
I got the vet out yesterday and they gave me 5 days of antibiotics and 3 days of danilon, box rest with walks in hand for a week.
Today his leg has almost no swelling, looks normal apart from the bump at the cut. Except there is swelling just above his knee, its warm. Again hes totally sound, eating and looks well in himself.

The vet did say that when the swelling got to his knee it would look quite bad- is this it? or should i be more concerned and get the vet out again ?

Would you be concerned about where the swelling is/ how it is today?
Or would you just keep an eye on it?

Thanks.

I'd just keep up with the antibis and bute... often the swelling does dispurse quite quickly leaving only fairly localised swelling, but it isn't unusual for it to take a little longer to go down... I'd wait til you are on the 5th day of antibis and see how it is then... if still concerned, call vet as he might need some more.. he will be sound if the bute is doing what it's supposed to do!!

Thanks for reply. Think I'll give him a few days and see how he is.

He was sound before he had any painkillers, so i'm hopin that itself is a good sign.

yeah, I would say thats a good sign!

Bute is the best anti-inflamitory so it is worth finishing the course...

you could also get some which hazel and arnica gell and apply to the swelling - but not the broken skin, which will help take it down, and or buy some arnica tablets in boots and feed those which will help with any bruising.

Kicks on legs in particular always look a lot worse than they often are..
