Am after opinions please.

Brought Josie in from field this afternoon. When I went to put her headcollar on I noticed she has swollen glands, the ones next to her cheek behind where the headcollar sits if that makes sense?

Both sides are up. I've never seen her with these before.

She's bright in herself, no runny nose, cough etc. Eating like a pig as per usual.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

She's just finished the first bale of new hay. Could this be anything to do with it?

Thanks

Sounds like the glands have come up because of the change in hay. Prince's swell up with the slightest hint in a change of diet but don't seem to bother him and go again within about 24 hours

We have the same thing today - and have just started a new round bale of hay which came from a different field to the last lot.

Having said that, I am taking temps of all twice daily just in case...

I was told this can happen if they don't have enough to eat ie. they overchew and the glands swell up, made sense as it happened ears ago when horse was on very poor grazing at that time so was coming in hungry from field.

These glands often swell up from the overproduction of saliva usually from scoffing more than usual ie when there is a flush of grass. It could well be from the new hay or it could be from a flush of grass with this mild weather we have been having.
It can also indicate illness so you are right to be wary. If they don't go down or if she seems unwell or sore then you may need a vet.

Thanks for your replies everyone.

I've just been to check her they've gone down by 50% at least. Will keep an eye on her though.

Thanks again
