Hi guys, just wondeti g if a yo e has has a similar experience.

My horse was out in the field 2 days ago and freaked out as trucks came past. The girl who runs the livery yard went out to catch him as he was sweating and pulled off his right front shoe. This got put back on yesterday.

With the whole corona virus she is exercising him for me atm so took him out on the lunge today and he was mildly lame on the left front. She checked his legs and there is some puffiness just on the inside of the front left and no heat. The swelling is more generalized than local from below the knee down to fetlock. Shes putting on ice boots for a couple times a day
and will see how hes moving Friday.

Touch wood I've never really had a horse with any soft tissue injuries. Anyone seen this before? The swelling is not at the back of the leg and the tendon is definitely not bowed. Mo heat and doesn't seem to be sure to touch. Hes in great form ( too good!!!)

Really hoping it's just a knock and will be right again soon!

Thanks :)

This sounds fairly typical of a check ligament injury to me, I would see if the vet could come and scan next week

Other thing with him is 2 weeks ago when shod the farrier mentioned a bruise on his heel on inside of that leg, said it should not affect him as we don't jump. Hoping he maybe landed on that bucking

Wouldn't cause swelling though..........

Am hoping as there is no swelling at all on the back, its above the fetlock on the inside, it's not,.:oops:

But like I said I'm not experienced with these things, just optimistic ?:p

I'll give it a few days for swelling to go down and bring him for an ultrasound I think

The check ligament is not at the back, hence why the swelling is always inside and starts below the knee.
Of all the soft tissue injuries it is the quickest and easiest to heal

I've had a range of soft tissue injuries over the years and none have been puffy at the back of the leg.
I'd echo the suggestion for a call to the vet if it's not resolved in a few days.

If I had to have a tendon or ligament injury, I'd choose check ligament every time. Easiest to repair, least likely to recur. There's a possibility he's broken the splint bone, though, which is why you need a vet if no better in a few days. Meanwhile, I think you should probably box rest, though I have to be honest, it's not advice I would take myself.

Thank you , will keep him in for a couple days till the weekend I think, lucky as we have some small sand turnouts too so if he's not too sore might supervise him in one for a couple hours over the weekend. He's 17.3 so hate when he's on box rest!!!!

Just an update on my boy. Went over this morning and the swelling has localized to above the fetlock and on either side now too. No heat or pain even with a good squeeze. Still mildly lame in trot.

Sent pictures onto my vet after chatting and he is sure it is tendons sheath inflammation. Said it can take up to 14days to feel better. So to give him till next weekend continuing with cold therapies, box rest and bute, then decide if he needs to go down for some injections or scans.

Am so so hoping thats it but almost to afraid to hope!!! Kerp fongets crossed
