These swellings at the top of the cheeks have been popping up over the last week. I saw one on one cheek about 2 weeks ago, then it had disapeared by the next evening. This evening she had two swellings- on both cheeks! Its right at the top- seems far away from where the back of her teeth would end up.Dentist is coming soon but just wondered if anyone has seen this before?
Pic- sorry its very dark but if you look closely you can see a little lump!

If it's what Amy used to get - swollen Paritoid glands - its just an over production of saliva, and nothing to worry about. Although when it first happened I thought she had strangles!

Can't see the photo properly cos it's a bit dark.........

No its not anywhere near the partoid glands- the main lump is right in the middle of the cheekbone area, and the whole of the cheek is inflamed underneath it. Sorry the photo is just too bad!

Can't see any puncture wounds!

Strange how they have popped up then they disapeared, then popped up again on both sides..

She's definately not been sticking head in a bush or anything, her paddock is like a lawn!

Call Alex out she will love you!!!

Corroy had similar swellings with a very sore throat. Alex came and scanned her face etc and sent them off to Bristol, they were just as baffled and we never got to the bottom of it

Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

Just paid my smallest vets bill yet with much joy- £45 ! Was so happy as that was the first vet bill I've ever had that was under £100 !

Did Corroy's swellings pop up and down?

No they were there pretty much all of the time, it just went as strangely as it arrived, honestly she's a medical mystery. Do you know though I haven't had the vet for anything other than jabs for over a year now (touch wood)

Long may it last!

I might be way off the mark here but are you sure its not a lump of food stuck between her teeth and her cheek? A friend had a horse that suddenly developed a lump on one side of its face so she called the vet out. he stuck his hand up the side of the horse's mouth and removed a massive ball of chaff and pasture mix much to the owner's embarrassment

Ooh interesting!! Haha now that may be the case! Will stick my hand up there and have a rummage about...

would explain why the swellings have been popping up and down.

Hi, my Mare gets this and so do many of the horses at our yard if your horse is out on short grass for a long period of time it's through them trying to get at the grass (sorry not a very good explanation) I started to bring my Mare in at lunch time and she does not get it anymore only if I leave her out for too long a period.

mine get this sometimes too. i've never been able to work out what it is. i've even have someone tell me that they get it on windy days, but i don't think i'm quite gullible enough to believe that my horse is a windsock! could be caused by an allergy or something? as long as there's no pain on palpation, i ignore it, tbh.
