Hi, just wondered if anyone has experience of using an equine swimming pool for helping with injury rehab?

Horse doing well after KS and then pelvic problems, needs to build up strength in his hind end, and wondering about a livery stay where he could swim every day, although I couldn't afford this for long. Don't know if just a week would be very beneficial?

Will consult physio later but wondered what others' experiences are, please.

I think I read somewhere that they swim 'hollow' and thus not necessarily indicated for KS horses but that could be completely wrong!?

I think the water treadmills may be better for muscle development, is there anywhere nearby that has one? I know livery for that near me is about 120 a week with 3 treadmill sessions

I think swinning which inverts the horses spine would be about the worse thing you could do .

I think so too, I would discuss with the physio what she thinks will be of most benefit, my horse was recommended to swim last year, totally different injury to yours, there was nowhere nearby, a spa was suggested, again nothing around so we managed with just basic rehab and physio.

I am looking at getting a magnetic rug for my SI horse, it will be useful long term.

Thank you both, confirms what I thought I remembered reading about swimming but couldn't find any info.

All under control now, (touch wood, fingers crossed...) it's just a question of building strength.

You are just going through the stage of wanting to do something, anything to help, time is going to be what you need and patience, I know how you are feeling, hope the rehab goes well.

Yes you're quite right, patience is a virtue.... :-)

Also as have a couple of trips planned over the summer and he will have ten days of doing nothing but grazing, which will be perfect for him, but for another short week away I was toying with the idea of rehab livery of some sort.
