Our local pool invites dogs to swim before it closes for the winter. No chlorine in the pool. We have booked a session for our 2 but before we go there will have been 80 in yhe pool plus the 40 in our session!! Having a bit of a wobble now about our dogs catching something which would be just our luck!! Would love to take them but just not sure?

Like @Jenko109 above, my main concern would not be about the dogs catching anything.

Without instead I'm wondering How large is your local pool?

Do they take any consideration for the breed/size of the dogs when booking, or do they only go by the numbers? Because there's a huge difference between accommodating 40 mainly Labrador size dogs, and 40 mainly Toy Poodle size dogs, in a pool in the same session.

Does it cost anything to book, and/or show up to the session, and having a look to see if it resembles the dog version of the Wild West in the pool?
If it doesn't cost more than you can afford to lose, you could always go there, and have a look before deciding whether to actually let your 2 dogs into the pool, or turning around and going home again with your dogs still dry.

There are a few specialised dog swimming pools around and you can book for an individual session, does cost about £40 but personally I think I would prefer to do that rather than go in with lots of other dogs . That doesn’t sound good to me with the numbers going

The outdoor pool is a good size. Not been for years, I'm trying to liken it to a menage, I would say bigger than a 20 x 60!! Its £10 a session per dog so not to worried if we don't go or we turn up and it's mayhem!! They have done it the last few years and it's seems to be really popular with no negative comments posted. I think we will turn up and judge it from there!! The lab adores the water . Our parsons is getting braver. I took her to a dog pool and she hated it. Just thinking at this pool she can paddle, she doesn't have to swim.

Saltdean Lido have been doing this for a number of years now. Not my cup of tea but they seem to attract people and dogs in their droves. If this is the place you are thinking of going to there are plenty of videos on line so that you can have an idea of what to expect.

Just looked thank you. Nobody is allowed in the pool with the dogs tomorrow. Looks very civilised actually!!

I go every year with my little dog. The first year we were both very overwhelmed and she'd never swam so we played in the paddling pool. Then, we booked private pools for dogs that allow the owner in with them for "swimming lessons" -- since then, we really enjoy our lido swims and have learned to book the !quiet session! (limited to 50 dogs) on a Sunday evening ... IT is indeed much quiet. It is carnage the rest of the time. Dog charging about and forgetting they have an owner. Was not for us!

Update!! What a fantastic time we had!! There was about 35 dogs in our session. They all played, shared balls and were just fantastic to watch! Our lab absolutely loved it! We couldn't keep her out of the big pool!! The little parsons absolutely loved fetching the ball out of the kiddies paddling pool! I am so chuffed with her as she can be a bit shy but there was none of that today!! She was playing in and out of the water with all sorts of shapes and size dogs!! We can take the lab anywhere, she has always been good but today she was like a naughty child!! Sneaking off at every opportunity to swim in the big pool! So pleased we gave it a go!!

That sounds amazing, I've been looking for somewhere for our beagle to go. Where do you go FOTF? I think the numbers would be a bit overwhelming for Summer but if it's near it might be worth a try!

I took my partners employers GS and a terrier for a walk down the field the other day and the GS managed to brush past Summer who was leaning into the moat to drink. Splash and in she went, head right under the water. She soon came up and managed to climb out. Course the GS and terrier followed and had a great time! I was kicking myself as I thought that was Summer and water over with.

Following week we walked the same route and Summer made a point of going over to the lake and wasn't a bit bothered much to my relief, she found a shallower area and waded in although didn't swim so I'mhoping all is not lost. .
