I'm seriously concerned at the ever changing guide lines for pregnant women and the risks of contracing swine flu.
Is anyone here pregnant and feeling like they are on house arrest?

I'm pregnant and I'm a radiographer in a hospital. I can hardly take the next 6 months off work.

The whole swine flu thing is making me really angry, the over hyping it in the media is the only thing making things dangerous.

Compared to the numbers of people that die from different "ordinary" strains of flu each year, I really think this has been hyped up out of all proportion.

I am not placing myself under house arrest and enjoying myself the same way I would normally.

Yes I am 7 months pregnant and the whole thing is doing my head in. I can hardly lock myself away from the world for the next 8 weeks!
I've had plenty of ante-natal appoitments at hospital and with my GP's midwife and had no mention of it!
The media is creating unneccessary worry so please don't get yourself too worked up about it - that'll do your baby more harm than good.
I'm consoling myself with the fact that my baby is viable now so if I do go into premature labour he has a fighting chance, but really I'm trying not to think about it!

i''m 8 months pregnant, and to be honest i'm a bit worried.

i don't know why, cos i don't usually get hysterical about this sort of thing, but i seem to be finding excuses not to go out or do stuff... hey, maybe i'm just lazy?!?

i was down at the yard this morning, chatting to YO about the hype about swine flu in pregnancy... saying i was worried... she handed me her baby to hold, whilst she did something with her horse... about five minutes into the conversation she told me there was swine flu at her baby's nursery... i swear i nearly dropped the baby...

clipcloppop, your reaction is exactly what I mean about the over hyping of the swine flu. Its not your fault you have been scared by innappropriate reporting.
If they took the 'swine' bit off the front and just called it flu (which really it is) would you be so frightened? Probably not although if you read any DOH leaflet on seasonal flu the risks to pregnant women are EXACTLY the same.

Pregnant women are at an increased risk of catching ANY illness, be that swine flu, ordinary flu, a cold, vomiting bugs etc etc. This is because pregnancy lowers the immunity. There is a small risk with any illness that a fever can cause premature labour. This risk is very very small.
That is it. If you do get swine flu there are 2 drugs that are both safe to use in pregnancy that can help you.
TBH from what I've seen off patients with swine flu (including one pregnant lady) You might not even realise you have it when you get it

This is because people are so frightened by it that they expect it to make them at deaths door, when they just get mild flu symptoms they think 'well this can't be swine flu'

As I said I work in a hospital and I'm dealing with swine flu regularly [shrug] Ihaven't been given any other guidelines than the rest of the population i.e catching sneezes and washing off hands.
When I'm in close contact to a swine flu patient both them and I wear a face mask. I also wear a full length gown. However this isn't really to protect me

its because I also deal with immunosuppressed patients and patients on ITU. If I transfered SF to them it could be catastrophic
