Thank you for your reply. I was thinking that but the traces have small slots and the clips look too bulky.Pop the carabiner clips onto the traces?
The clips are too big to slip the traces on. I may just buy smaller ones.To the carabiner clips?

This is my first cart so it’s all new to me ?
Do you know where I can buy these? If you have slot end traces you can get an adapter with a ring that will then allow you to use the carabiner.
I have looked at these but I have slotted traces. How would I get them to work with these?Replacing them with quick release shackles would be safest.

As would be swapping to D ended traces.
Plenty of people don’t though..

Thank you for your reply. Could you point me in the right direction for d loop end traces?I've had a quick look and it doesn't look like you can get d-ring trace adapters here in the UK after all, I got mine whilst I was in America.
Given the importance of safety when it comes to all things harness (all things driving actually) I would strongly recommend that you replace your traces with a pair of traces with a ring end. This is a very simple switch.
Millikins had the very best suggestion though. If you let us know roughly where you are I bet we can find you someone who could guide you in person. Driving is the most wonderful thing to do with our horses and ponies but when things go wrong they can go wrong in spectacular fashion. Safety is absolutely everything, for your pony's sake, your sake and that of everyone around you. We are taking a prey animal, trussing them up like a Christmas turkey and strapping them to a solid often metal, clanking contraption and asking them to trust us that all is well. It's a lot.
The people in the driving world are the friendliest, most helpful people you will find anywhere and it won't be hard to find you someone who will guide you. Better yet, find an instructor and they will give you invaluable help that will keep you all safe and will last you a lifetime Welcome to the world of driving, it's a blast!
Thank you ?I use smaller carabiner clips through the slot end traces, which then clip quickly and easily onto the larger ones which are permenantly on the swingletree. I think the big ones are 8mm and the small are 6mm, and plenty strong enough.
I did have one set where the traces were too short, and I attached a length of chain to each slot using split links (the type which screw close) to give me another foot or so of trace, which was a similar idea.

Do you know where I can buy the quick releases?
Thank you ?
