Wondered if anyone had tried these? :) I'm already prepping for winter and looking for new toe cages to go with my snow boots, but then I spotted these clips and figured if people have had good experiences with them I could miss out on the toe cages on just have clips instead. Of course if people have had bad experiences I'll give them a wide berth :O

OP, not answering your question I know -

are 'closed-in fronts' cages made? and if so do they keep you toes a bit warmer? (sounds like a great idea for cold winter days to me, especially when you're doing hours of slow exercise)

ETA - I found barnes buckles wobbled a bit if the stirrup leather hole was too big, so you have to choose your stirrups carefully. Another alternative is the breakaway stirrups IF you can find them in a large enough size to wear snow boots in, I have a pair that are stainless steel and look very like 'ordinary' stirrups so can be worn on formal occasions too (they look like side-saddle safety stirrups if you know what I mean)

The Barnes Buckle looks like just the ticket! I'll feel much better about using something people are familiar with and rate well.

New question - breakaway stirrups? What are those?! I'm clearly living behind the times as per horsey technology :D

Catkin, I've never used fully closed toe cages, I usually ride in cheapy plastic toe cages when I can't use normal riding boots and it works okay, just a bit clumpy looking :) I can't say I've noticed if they keep feet warmer, but there's reflective yellow fleece lining for stirrups that works, probably more than well enough for british winters :) I use them in spring when I don't need my thermal moon boots any more -

You can get leather hooded endurance stirrups or toe-warmers to go over cages.
Smartrider make 5" wide breakaway stirrups, they also make stainless steel traditional ones but these wouldn't be big enough for snow boots.
