so everytime she stands in it flares up again!!!

never been lame before loosing fitness absolutely GUTTED

vet comming back in week to do x rays

so what would you do. i dont want to spend nearly £200 on x rays then vet say she just needs more time
is this length of time normal...what can i do to make swelling go the hell away
shes only slightly lame in trot but not always and is not in pain

basicly iv never had any lame probs so any advice from people who have seen this before

I'm afraid some joint swellings NEVER go away completely - even when there's no serious underlying damage. The joint capsule swells and even when whatever caused the swelling subsides, the joint capsule stays 'stretched'. Worth having x-rays though to rule out something that could be 'dealt with' - e.g. a chip.

You could try amoricaine powder (sp?) which helps reduce swellings. It comes in white powder form...and you mix it to the consistence of plaster or thick icing...then coat the affected lumpy bit. Leave it on overnight, then it sort of crumbles off later..and you can rinse off the residue with water. Don't use it if the skin is broken though. And sometimes it can change the coat colour temporarily so not good if a show horse.
Or you could do a knee bandage...my idea of hell, knee bandages.

dont expect this from my smashing little cob
stupid mare not picking her feet up!!

I see that you are in Manchester. If there is no structural damage (bone chips joint capsules etc) and its just swelling I know of a very very good lazer therapist in Lancashire who mihgt be able to help you. PM me if you want details.

Ahem....I have a 18yr old sound TB....who has more sense than to run into a stone wall...

If I were you I'd get the X-rays...but I am a worrier so would convince myself her leg would drop off at any moment otherwise. At least you know where you are then - either the bones are fine so you can ride when she's sound...or you'll know exactly how long to rest her for.
Good luck with your horse's knee...enjoy those knee bandages...think of them as BHS exam prep

Knees stay big for ages in my experience, if she is walking it off then i really wouldnt worry to much, is she very lame on it, and is she better when she has walked it off?
