I noticed my gelding had a very swollen are behind his jaw yesterday, almost as if it would be his glands. It is only on one side, and I felt under this neck around the throat area and that seems a bit swollen aswell. YO had a look and suggested just to monitor him and make sure he's still himself, if there was any sign of discharge or anything to get the vet. He's not been out anywhere since September to have caught anything however his 2 field mates have been out a lot. Hoping its just a viral type thing. Anyone any ideas? Someone suggested 'grass glands' however ive never heard of these before and it seems to be more likely when there's a new flush of grass.

Thank you

It's probably the grass both my horses have had the same thing for about a week, the grass is still coming through like it's spring with all this warm wet weather, I am getting quite fed up with it now just need it to get cold and dry.

One of my horses has been coming in with big grass glands over the last few weeks, worse than ever. Hers are usually on both sides, but one side is often larger. They do go down overnight when she is stabled, does yours go down when off the grass? I agree taking temp would be useful to check for infection.

Godparents daughters horse just been diagnosed with Layngitis/Pharyngitis (my parents who relayed the information are a bit unclear about which one it is). Vet thought it might be strangles as it presented with similiar symptoms at first but the swab came back negative.

The swab is not a good test, a blood test is required or 3 swabs, by which time it is too late.
Ihe temperature should be taken twice per day.

UPDATE- well! It seems to have disappeared. How bizarre. It was down in size yesterday and today it's almost away. Rode out and he was absolutely fine too(not reluctant or carrying his head to one side ) . So, something else for me to have a look out for in the future...
