My mare has slightly swollen (not fluidy more hard) back legs, front are fine. They are not hot to the touch and I cant see any signs of mud rash starting.

As well as this she just doesnt seem herself- walking slightly stiff behind, generally lethargic and looking tucked up. She is eating well and making plenty of poo's! She is 17 tb x arab and gets out every day.

Obviously I will get the vet if she doesnt improve but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

yeah you could very well be right, I have been thinking lately she looks old all of a sudden. Wee soul is normally like a spring chicken.

yeah guess I'll just need to keep an eye on her.

She's never had mud rash before do you think it could be about to start on her back legs hence the swelling?

We have just got a over a virus like this. Symptons were swollen back legs, some were really big, lethargic and some had swollen glands in the neck/face area. All went on bute and were turned out to keep legs moving. Blood tests came back as near normal so was just called a virus.
Hope you get it sorted soon

I introduced her to oil about a week ago as she was losing weight i wonder if that is causing the problem?

Or possibly the hay she is on is really really good stuff ?
