Any thoughts - one of our horses, has two swollen back legs but not lame, she is a picky eater anyway but might be leaving slightly more hay than she usually does. The horse in the next stable has today also got two swollen back legs but he is not a fussy eater normally has left lots of his hay trailled through his bed.

Get the vet, it could be lots of different things, but swollen legs shouldn't be left, particularly both hinds....could be Lymphangitis.

My boy has had and is still prone to Lymphangitis, would def get vet out so they can see if it is as the swelling needs to be controlled.

If the horse is a heavier type esp hunter type, both back legs are affected esp if horse has been standing around eg overnight in stable and the horse isnt lame, then it could quite likely be Lymphangitis. It can be in the hocks or the fetlock area or both.

Vet will prob prescribe bute cold hosing and regular gentle exercise if it is L-itis. Its not the end of the world unless v severe, but they will stay prone to it flaring up again in future.

Def would chat to your vet on this one....

I didnt get the vet in the end but thanks, back to normal now, just cold hosed and gentle exercise 3/4 times a day. However horse in stable beside still has big legs so it must be for a different reason.
