Swollen boy "bits" (Paraphimosis)

I posted this in the veterinary section but no joy so thought I may get some info here:

My friends little 2.5 year old Cob has gone very thin again with his gastric ulcers and is back on Gastro Gard etc. But now he has Paraphimosis too probably due to his poor condition. Does any one have any experience of this..??? At the moment we are spending several hours a day massaging his bits to attempt to put it back in the sheath but it just swells up again :-( He is being seen by the vet obviously but wondered how other people have dealt with this..??

drat!!! wrote out a long reply, hit post & the page disappeared into nowhere... so here goes a second try...

We have a 34 yr old boy who suddenly developed this just before christmas. He ended up spending 5 days at the vets, but although they could get his "dangling dingle" back in, it wouldn't stay in without the pursestring suture that they tried. The suture couldn't last for ever, and we had three choices...
1... Amputation, which I might have considered, except he's old & almost certainly wouldn't survive the anaesthetic.
2... PTS, but he's bright eyed & happy in himself,
3... manage it for as long as possible.

The vets suggestion to keep the swelling down was to keep it strapped to his belly using something like www.elitehorseclothing.com/bellydickie.

Howver I came up with the idea of using tubigrip, seemed a bit wild at the time, but it seems to give enough compression to control & even reduce the swelling...

Hope this helps, I know that we are just trying to let the old man have a little extra time, whereas with your youngster you'll need a better solution...
