My mare has been coming in from the field the last few days with swelling on both sides of her cheeks next to her mouth and under her chin. It goes down mostly overnight when she’s stabled and she’s completely happy and normal in herself. Eating isn’t affected at all and there is so nasal discharge or any other signs of anything. Originally I thought it could be an allergic reaction or an abundance of fresh grass so have moved her field two times. I’m now wondering if it could be something to do with teeth or something in her mouth. I have the vet coming on Wednesday anyway but does anybody had experience with this in the meantime? ( sorry the photos aren’t brilliant) Many thanks

My boy was like this a couple of weeks ago! Didn’t bother him in the slightest! Allergy to something in the hedge or fresh grass.

Ah thank you for your reply. Glad your boy recovered quickly. How did you monitor him through it while it went down out of interest?

Well to be honest he suffers horrendously with grass glands and various hives etc with grass changes....I didn’t panic this time and call vet (like I normally do) and just waited....it gradually went down after a few days, he looked a bit odd, nose band barely did up but I still rode and then it went! No intervention or anything! X

Ahh my girl is the same with her grass glands so I’ll see how she gets on over the next few days as she’s not bothered at all. Thank you again x
