My mare cut the inside of her pastern just above the hoof a couple of days ago, the cut itself isn't too big (5 pence piece at the most) and not deep either. I have been cold hosing, cleaning it with antiseptic spray and applying sudocrem which has helped however the area around the cut is quite swollen and warm. She is not lame at all and isn't bothered by me poking and prodding etc.
Could I please have some advice on how to help reduce the swelling and what is best to help the cut heal?
Should she be stabled or turned out?
Should I bandage the pastern area or leave it open?

Thank you!!

Definitely have a word with your vet, but in the meantime, I wouldn't be putting sudocrem on it - you want moist environment for the optimal wound healing, so things like Intrasite gel, or possible aloe vera gel would be better and also less sticky.

Small cuts that aren't infected, I like to clean and then leave them open to the air. If flies are an issue then I will apply summer fly cream (the yellow one).
