My 9yr old Pointer x Lab has today developed swollen ear flaps. Not horribly swollen or heamatoma swollen - just feels thicker between my finger and thumb.
His inner ears are not particularly red or dirty and no real smell but I've cleaned them out anyway using stuff from the vet I purchased when he had his jabs.
He doesn't seem in any pain or discomfort and is happy for me to stroke them.

I'm having a minor meltdown just because I'm neurotic I think and just wondered if anyone had any experience?
I'm not looking for diagnosis I promise as I'll call vet first thing in morning if still swollen.

As a point of interest exactly 1 week ago today I swapped him onto a new food. Previously he's been fed Skinners hypoallergenic duck and rice but I moved him to Fromm Gold senior as he's getting older and I thought it was a better feed for him.
Could it be food do you think?

Thornit ordered and I swapped his food back yesterday when I realised that this was the only thing I've changed.
He's not scratching excessively but he is shaking his head although I can't say if it's more than normal or I'm just seeing it more.

Really don't know what to do. I'm sure if I call vet they'll tell me to bring him in and whilst I don't begrudge him a penny I don't like to overuse antibiotics etc. He seems happy in himself and not sore but I feel terrible as obviously something is wrong :-(

My old IWS damaged his ear by shaking his head, I cant remember what the vet referred to it as but the shaking caused a burst blood vessel or something and the ear filled up with fluid and became swollen and lumpy to the touch. He drained it with a syringe but when it happened again operated to fuse it together (or something like that) Could that be a cause do you think?
