My boy came in from the field last night with quite a puffy and weepy right eye, had a quick look and couldnt see anything glaringly obvious. Anyhow, this morning the top lid is swollen, eye still shut, very weepy and area quite hot. Had another quick look (i say quick as i'm quite mindful of not wanting to do anymore damage by poking around!) and the membrane is a very red/purple colour. So waiting for 8.30 when vets open to call out.

I never know whats the best thing to do with eye injuries - (he's done this before albeit not so hot and swollen and obviously painful and he was fine within 12 hours), so I'm playing it safe and getting someone out.

The only thing I would put near eyes is sterilised tepid water, maybe with a tiny amount of salt if a cut is visible, until told otherwise by the vet . The eye itself produces salty water to protect itself. I always get the vet out for eye injuries as they can look innocuous but can be quite nasty.

Well done you for getting the vet...too many people wait with eye injuries...they can turn nasty so quickly.

I would always get the vet for an eye injury...you just cant afford not to with eyes.
