Ponio came in with swollen eyes yesterday. I bathed them and turned her out over night. Come morning one had gone down but the other was still swollen. I stabled her for the day and it's gone down a little so she went out again for the night. Is there anything I can bath her eye with? It doesn't look infected just irritated.

Boiled water left to cool down, Amymay suggested golden eye in my post regarding my horses eyes (in vet) I would call the vet if it doesn't go down in a few days or looks to be infected.
There is a lot of cases of eye problems around latley.

hope ponios eyes feel better soon xxxx

Make a very strong brew of tea, let it cool, soak some cotton wool with it and bathe the eye. A vet gave me this tip when mine had a swollen eye and it's worked well! (am assuming there's no injury)

I can't see an injury - there isn't a wound or anything and she has the field to herself. My TBx had an infected eye last year and it looks nothing like this - the lower eyelid and round the tearduct is swollen and a bit red like a human with hayfever is the best description...

My friend's used the tea on her horses gunky eyes - it looks like the flies had irritated them - and it got the swelling down. Might be worth a try? It won't do any harm and if it works it's a whole lot cheaper than eye cream from the vet!!!

Plain cooled boiled water is just as good for a soothing bathe, or Optrex (or Boots/Tescos own make of the same). Some Forum members swear by Golden Eye ointment but all these are across the counter products and you need a prescription only medicine (POM on the packaging) to tackle infections. If ned does have an infection, you really do need to get the vet as eye probs can very turn nasty very fast.
