Went to see horse today and her hind fetlock and pastern is swollen. Thought maybe it was gathered fluid as it was bad weather here yesterday and she doesnt move much in the bad weather. Anyway took her for a walk (in hand) this morning and it did go down a lot and was almost back to normal. Just went to see her this aft and its swollen up again. She does have a bit of mud fever on that hind so wondering if it could be to do with that? There is no heat, lameness and she is letting me pick it up. she is fine within herself and full of life on our walk today. What do you guys think?

Ah I really hope so! Im justy treating it again with sudocreme and sulphur and hoping it clears up good and proper and doesnt come back. Need to get some pig oil.

Be very careful. My boy presented with the symtoms you are describing. Turned out to be an annular ligament strain, he is on box rest 'til spring. He was not lame as such, just a little unlevel.

I would stable and see how things go.

Stable, dry the area and see how they are in the morning. If it is the mf that is causing the swelling you'll need antibiotics.

If its the annular ligament you can feel the swelling either side of the tight band of ligament. Is the horse in or out? I'd cold hose it for 20 mins, preferably 3x a day min, & provided horse is sound, happy, & its going down with hosing & movement leave it 24hrs then review.
