My 8 year old OTTB was on a stall rest for 2 months, had a bit of trotting in the small pasture. Stall rest was connected to a splint bone injury, nothing to do with fetlocks. Anyway, he was brought back to work 4 days ago. Worked on sandy terrain, on a race course. He was not brought to work slowly, first day he did a good gallop, and a bit of trotting, then had 2 days off, and now again 2 days of galloping. I always thought we should have done it slowlier, but it was not my decision, I had no choice. Today when we came to him, he had swollen left fetlock and right too, but barely could be noticed. He was walked under saddle, and swelling got smaller, then was trotted on a hard ground. Was not lame, no head dropping, only wasn't much soft on his left leg, but got better when warmed up. He got something on his joint now to help the swelling and stuff, and we cold hosed his legs. Swelling got down a lot, but joint is still puffy. Vet said it is nothing serious, as he is not lame, except a bit on the start. And he said it could be because we pushed him into work too fast. He said he will be good to go in 1-2 days, if the leg improves tomorrow and he thinks swelling will be gone tomorrow. What are your opinions on this, any help is appreciated. Leg is not painful to the touch, and very little to no heat present. Thanks!
