Would like to have a bit of advice. been a bit of a lurker for a few months now.
On Wednesday Bird and her stable mates were kept inside as the weather was horrible and there is not much grass out in the fields. They were obviously happy eating ad lib haylage. Wednesday night she was fine - no problems what so ever
On Thursday morning the YO went to put them out and she was extremely lame so kept her in, checked for obvious injuries and heat. Her fetlock was swollen and so was the back of her leg up to her knee. there was a little heat as well.
When i got there that evening she was a lot less lame and quite happy to wonder around.
We checked her leg;
still swollen fetlock and back of knee,
little heat,
Pulse not pulsating
did flexion test on fetlock with no pain response - didn't even blink
found tiny scab on fetlock -soaked of scab
hosed down leg
dry poulticed with a very loose bandage in case of swelling although it didn't last long over night.
Friday - practically sound but with still a fair bit of swelling of the fetlock, back of leg in tendon area and bottom of knee and also a little heat
and the same today. Carried on hosing off
Have kept her out of the muddy field today and allowed her to wonder around safely in the yard (closed in) as i was worried that the swelling is due to her being stuck in.
she does not appear to be lame now.
Will get the vet out on Monday if it is no better (waiting for the very nice equine specialist)
If anyone could shed some light or advice i would be very grateful - first time owner!
