My mare came in today with what looked like sticky orange juice on her head. Cleaned it off and couldn't see anything on her face causing it. Went and poo picked and then checked her again. Face was all wet and it was running down her face to her nose. Cleaned it again and spoke to vet. She was puzzled as well. Stayed up the yard for a few hours watching her. Its is now swelling and this is moving down her face but no sign of anything just a small red mark on her star (really have to look to see it) no raised lumps but forehead almost soaking wet. Now waiting for vet!!! Anyone had anything similar?? I think it must be a bite of some sort.

Vet has been and you can see two areas on her face, one at the bottom of forelock and one on forehead where it is weeping. Her forehead is swollen and we think it is a bite of some kind. Antibiotics and danilon and she has clipped it and covered in Vaseline as so much serum coming out she is worried that the skin will slough away. She can feel crepitus when she pressed the skin. Whatever bit her was nasty and may have been when wearing her mask!! Just hoping that insurance will say it is an injury as she is 23yrs and only covered as a veteran.
