we have a horse who over the last month comes in from the field some days with his glands up, sometimes they go down by the morning completely sometimes they don't.I have moved his field during this time to see if it was anything that he was eating out his field that i hadn't spotted. He is well fit and mostly bright. should i be worried and get the vet to take a look?

A horses glands swell up when a horse antisapates (sp?) eating grass. If there is a small amount of grass in the field the mouth/ glands will produce saliva and if only a small amount of grass has been digested the excess saliva will stay in the glands. It is very common and nothing to worry about. If swelling hasn't gone down by the morning then you can call vet if you want but I'm pretty sure it will :)

This happens to my gelding to just theses last couple of months he's in the same field as he has been for the last year he is fit and happy but sometimes comes in at night with this nothing to worry about it always goes down x
