I have had my mare nearly 4 years, but she has only been worked regularly for the last 9 / 10 months due to back problems / mental issues that we had to sort out.

When she came to me she had a great big lump of scar tissue on her off hind, just above her fetlock on the front of the leg. It seems that the lady who owned her before me had basically just not treated a cut that she had sustained, and it ended up in a handful of scar tissue forming. I had this lump removed straight away, as she caught it fairly regularly, because of the size of it, and she would quite often come in from the field with it bleeding. Due to the location it definitely wasn't posssible to put any type of boots on at all, and bandaging was very difficult.

So the vet removed the lump, all was fine, and it healed nicely, with no further proud flesh forming. She has a very small bald patch were the original wound was, but you really have to know its there to notice it.

In the last few weeks I have noticed a slight swelling around this scar, and sort of on the front of the fetlock joint. There isn't any heat in the slight swelling, and she isn't lame.

The only different thing that I have done recently is start using the premier equine sports boots again - but I had been using these all last summer - just hadn't used them recently.
Do you think it is possible that it is just the boots irritating the old scar slightly - or something that I should worry about more?

She doesn't seem to be sore on it, and doesn't mind me poking and prodding it - any ideas?

Thankies - cookies and a sunday lunch glass of wine for everyone who got this far x

i would just leave it alone if its not bothering her. she could have just banged it a little!! ive been told that if u rub udder mint in any swelling it will go down. thats what i used on my horse who had a swollen fetlock!!
