one of my mares was hit by a car at the start of december
it was a low speed impact and she had xrays on her fetlocks and they were fine.
she has a nasty injury down to the bone on her knee, for which she is on box rest and having it bandaged. she gets walked 4x day for 5mins. shes been off bute and antibiotics for 14 days now.
she has developed a large-ish swelling on her hock
on the same leg she has a burn injury on the fetlock, this is dry and scabbed up and looks fine.
none of her other legs are swollen.
the actual hock itself isnt swollen, it is around the inside and front (talus bone?). the swelling is soft and moveable and its not hot or tender. (?the area a bog spavin forms)
shes not sore on it or lame.
ive spoken to the vet already and they are not very concerned at all and said to check a flexion test myself today and again in a week. if shes sore both times they will come to look at her for the hock.
i am a bit concerned it could be bone chips causing the swelling..?
shes already on rest/ controlled exercise due to her knee.
shes due to get her knee reviewed around the 7th Jan but i am a little twitchy about her hock now..?

she was hit by the car on the hind legs/ quarters, hence my concern.
the knee injury was due to going to the ground. (her knee joint is fine, forgot to say that was xrayed)
i am very panicky about her at the moment so im just wondering if others would also want her examined or xrayed?
shes never had swelling there before.

I am sorry to hear of your accident. I would want the vet to look and check her hocks, just to be on the safe side.
I wondered if you had reported this on the BHS web site? Sorry if you have already but here's the link below, it will help to let the government know just how many accidents are happening on the roads.
Good luck
