My horse came in from the field today with a larger hock, no obvious heat an doesnt appear lame, didnt worry about me poking it, cant see any cuts/marks. She has been a bit grumpy with my gelding so wonder if she has been kicked?? I have put a pick of where the swelling is (borrowed pic from net) the swelling is actually quite hard?
the swelling basically fills in the bit that would be the narrow part of the hock (the bit on the outside where it goes in) is filled in, it does not extend beyond this point, looks more puffy than swollen as such?

anyone??? im going up shortly and will check if its worse/better and will trot her up to check for lameness as i only walked her yesterday and she looked ok. Just wondering when to call the vet, whether it can wait til office hours or if i need the out of hours emergency vet? dont want this to be a problem as she is destined for lots of things :-(

Sorry, I know this is an old post but pixiebee wondered how your horses hock is doing now?

My 2yr old has exactly the same as what you have described your horse has, same area, no lameness, been hosed and hasn't made a difference!

he had steroid injection, anit biotics, steroid tablets, 20 every other day for 5 days. now he's on 50 a day, which are less strong but is having them every day! and the area hasn't changed at all! the vet that I had out to my colicing mare last night said if the steroids are working then I will need to get it scanned to find out whats going on! its just confusing me, because its solid, feels like bone rather than a normal swelling and its been like this for around 6 weeks now!

so wonder what the rest was with your horse?
